Proximate is a macOS utility application developed by XPDynamics LLC. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about the data we collect. This policy explains what information Proximate collects, how it is used, and your rights regarding that data.

1. Information We Collect

Anonymous Usage Analytics

When analytics are enabled, Proximate collects anonymous usage data to help us understand how the app is used and improve it. This includes:

• Application events (e.g., app launched, preferences opened, feature used)
• macOS version and CPU architecture
• Cursor size setting
• A hashed, non-reversible identifier (we never send your actual customer ID or email to our analytics provider)

We do not collect: file contents, browsing history, keystrokes, screenshots, personal documents, or any data from other applications.

License and Purchase Information

When you purchase or activate a license, your email address, license key, and a device identifier are stored locally on your computer and communicated with our payment provider to validate your license.

Feedback and Support

If you submit feedback through the app, we collect the message you write and, optionally, your name, email address, and diagnostic information (app version, macOS version, display configuration). Diagnostic data is sanitized to exclude sensitive fields like license keys and email addresses.

2. How We Use Your Information

• Product improvement: Anonymous analytics help us understand which features are used, identify bugs, and prioritize development.
• License management: Purchase data is used solely to verify your license and manage your subscription.
• Customer support: Feedback and diagnostic data help us respond to your questions and resolve issues.

3. Third-Party Services

Proximate and this website use the following third-party services. On this website, analytics and live chat are only loaded after you give consent via the cookie banner.

Website

• Google Analytics (GA4) — Website analytics. Collects anonymised usage data including pages visited, referrer, and approximate location (country/city). Data is processed by Google in the United States. Google Privacy Policy. You can also opt out via the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
• PostHog — Session analytics and event tracking. Records anonymised interaction data including clicks, section views, and session replays. Data is processed in the United States. PostHog Privacy Policy
• Tawk.to — Live chat support widget. If you interact with the chat widget, Tawk.to may collect your IP address, browser information, and messages you send. Tawk.to Privacy Policy
• Cloudflare Turnstile — Bot protection for forms (essential; always active). Analyses browser signals to verify you are human. No personal data is stored beyond the verification session. Cloudflare Privacy Policy

App & Payments

• PostHog — Anonymous usage analytics within the macOS app. PostHog Privacy Policy
• LemonSqueezy (Lemon Squeezy LLC) — License management and payment processing. LemonSqueezy Privacy Policy
• Sparkle — Automatic update checks. Update checks contact our server to determine if a newer version is available. No personal data is transmitted.
• Mailjet — Transactional email delivery for feedback submissions, newsletters, and data deletion confirmations.

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with any third parties for marketing or advertising purposes.

4. Your Choices

Website Cookie Consent

When you first visit this website, a cookie consent banner lets you accept or decline analytics tracking. Your choice is stored in your browser and persists across visits.

You can withdraw or change your consent at any time by clicking the button below. This removes your stored preference and reloads the page, which will show the consent banner again.

App Analytics Opt-Out

You can disable anonymous usage analytics in the macOS app at any time:

• During onboarding, on the Privacy & Analytics step
• In the app: Settings > General > Privacy section

When analytics are disabled, no usage data is sent to PostHog.

Experimental Features

You can opt in to preview experimental features. This requires analytics to be enabled so we can measure feature usage and stability.

5. Data Deletion

You can request deletion of your analytics data at any time through any of the following methods:

• In the app: Settings > General > Privacy > "Request Data Deletion"

When you request deletion, we remove your analytics data from PostHog and send a confirmation to the email address on file (if available). Deletion requests are typically processed within 30 days.

6. Your Rights Under GDPR

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), you have the following rights:

• Right of access: Request a copy of your personal data.
• Right to rectification: Request correction of inaccurate data.
• Right to erasure: Request deletion of your data.
• Right to data portability: Request your data in a machine-readable format.
• Right to object: Object to data processing based on legitimate interests.
• Right to withdraw consent: Withdraw your website analytics consent using the Reset Cookie Preferences button above, or disable app analytics in Settings.

7. Your Rights Under CCPA

If you are a California resident, you have the right to:

• Know what personal information we collect and how it is used.
• Delete your personal information.
• Opt out of the sale of personal information. We do not sell your personal information.
• Non-discrimination for exercising your privacy rights.

8. Data Retention

Anonymous analytics data is retained for up to 12 months and then automatically deleted. License and purchase data is retained for the duration of your subscription and a reasonable period afterward for record-keeping. Feedback data is retained as long as necessary to resolve your inquiry.

9. Data Security

We take reasonable measures to protect your data. Customer identifiers are hashed with SHA-256 before being sent to analytics. License keys and sensitive data are stored securely on your device. All network communication uses HTTPS encryption.

10. Children’s Privacy

Proximate is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify users of significant changes through the app or on our website. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page indicates when the policy was last revised.
